Every course has a story. This one changed the way I see the game.
The Itinerary
Mystic Rock at Nemacolin
Pete Dye blasted this one out of a Pennsylvania mountainside. Bedrock left where it sat. Bulkheaded water everywhere. Host of four 84 Lumber Classics on the PGA Tour. America's 100 Greatest Public Courses every cycle since 2009.
The Day
A WPGA Play Day put one of Pete Dye’s most personal designs on the calendar — the course he carved out of a Laurel Highlands mountainside in 1995, where the boulders weren’t moved because they couldn’t be moved.
84 gross. 67 net. A birdie-eagle on the front, a fight on the back, and a drive for my dad that I didn’t see coming.
The full round write-up is in the journal.
On Deck
Shepherd’s Rock — Nemacolin’s second Dye design, opened 2017. I played it once when it was brand new and I wasn’t really a golfer yet. Going back this summer to see what’s changed in both of us.
